College sports rights holder Learfield has partnered with technology firm Adventure 33 to launch Prism, a cloud-based audio delivery network designed to replace its long-standing satellite infrastructure.
The transition impacts more than 2,100 terrestrial radio affiliates carrying collegiate sports programming across 140 university partner networks. The move follows growing capacity constraints and rising costs in C-band satellite spectrum, which the FCC continues to auction for wireless communications.
Learfield Senior Director of Broadcast Technology Ben Blevins said, “Learfield invested in the development of Prism because we saw an opportunity to modernize audio distribution at scale and build a stronger foundation for the future.”
