The largest fine, $325,322, targets Abdias Datis, known as “DJ AJ,” for operating “Unique FM” illegally for nearly seven years despite prior enforcement actions. Another $60,000 fine was levied against Aaron Streeter for broadcasting “Da Pound FM” after ignoring FCC warnings. Carr reinforced the Commission’s tough stance, stating, “The FCC will not tolerate unlicensed radio broadcasting. It’s that simple.” The enforcement is backed by the PIRATE Act, which expands the FCC’s authority to penalize illegal operators. However, Commissioner Nate Simington questioned the agency’s legal authority to impose fines without explicit congressional approval, citing recent Supreme Court rulings. The actions signal a continued crackdown on illegal broadcasters, aiming to protect licensed stations from interference and uphold the integrity of the airwaves.
