Morning hosts Bub McCullough and Renee Fonner led Cromwell Media station 101.3 WMCI/Mattoon, IL to a major fundraising milestone during its 25th annual radiothon for St. Jude Children Research Hospital. The two day broadcast event raised more than $134,000, pushing the station’s cumulative total past the $2 million mark since the fundraiser began. General Manager Luci Englum reported that the effort drew significant support from local businesses and listeners in the Coles County area.
The station has maintained a consistent local presence for decades, with McCullough serving as morning host since WMCI signed on in 1989. Fonner, who previously served on the St. Jude Country Cares advisory board, returned to the station to cohost the event. The proceeds support medical research and ensure that families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food while a child is in care. This local achievement was part of a broader week of nationwide radio fundraisers that collectively generated over $1 million for the hospital.
