The review will assess whether the increasing number of PROs has financially burdened businesses like bars, restaurants, and music venues, with some facing additional royalty demands beyond ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC. The inquiry also examines revenue distribution fairness, particularly for independent artists. “The MIC Coalition applauds the Copyright Office for addressing this critical issue,” the group stated, emphasizing the need for transparency and competition. With radio expanding into digital, new compliance measures could reshape licensing, potentially benefitting broadcasters but also introducing new challenges. Interested parties can submit comments until April 11, with replies due by May 27. The inquiry aims to improve the music licensing marketplace and create a more efficient system for all stakeholders.
