The FCC issues public notice regarding political file compliance.

As election activity intensifies, the FCC Media Bureau has released an official enforcement advisory reminding broadcast licensees of their strict public file obligations. Under Section 315 of the Communications Act, stations must maintain meticulous, up-to-the-minute records of all political advertising requests, placements, and rates. The agency notes that failure to upload these records to the online public inspection file immediately upon receipt can result in significant monetary forfeitures and potential license renewal complications.

For local radio operators, General Managers, and sales directors, this notice serves as an urgent operational directive. The federal oversight body emphasized that internal workflow delays do not excuse compliance gaps, stating that a station’s public file must reflect all political inquiries, whether accepted or rejected, to ensure transparent access for competing campaigns. Stations must audit their traffic workflows immediately to guarantee compliance during this peak cycle.
