Edison Research releases new data on smart speakers.

The latest consumer tracking data from Edison Research reveals that in-home smart speaker adoption has officially stabilized, shifting consumer listening habits toward digital streams of local broadcast signals. According to the quarterly report, over one-third of adult listeners now regularly use these voice-activated devices to access audio content. The findings indicate that the share of ear captured by traditional AM and FM stations on these devices relies heavily on explicit call-letter and branding commands.

For programmers and digital managers, this shift highlights the necessity of localized technical optimization. Operators must ensure their streams are properly indexed across major tech ecosystems and that automated station imaging frequently educates listeners on precise voice prompts. Failing to optimize for voice command discoverability effectively cedes digital market share to pure-play streaming competitors.
