Radio’s digital revenue surpasses $2 billion in 2024.

For the first time, the radio industry’s digital revenue exceeded $2 billion in 2024, marking a significant milestone as digital sales now account for nearly one in four dollars of total station revenue. The latest RAB-Borrell Associates Digital Benchmarking Report highlights a $2.1 billion digital revenue total for 2024, with a projected 9.7% increase in 2025. Streaming video emerged as radio’s top-performing digital product, surpassing streaming audio. “Stations are embracing digital solutions, training sales teams, and adopting multiplatform strategies,” said Borrell Associates CEO Gordon Borrell. Despite 71% of station managers rating their digital strategies positively, challenges in sales expertise remain, prompting more stations to refine training and compensation models. RAB President Mike Hulvey emphasized, “As radio continues to diversify and strengthen its services portfolio, revenue gains are possible.” With two-thirds of local advertisers yet to invest in radio’s digital offerings, the industry sees strong potential for continued growth.
