Over the past three months, two-thirds of U.S. adults reported taking action in response to advertising. Within that group, radio advertising emerged as a top driver of behavior, especially in high-value categories like luxury vehicles, electronics, travel, and entertainment. According to new research from Katz Media Group using Nielsen Scarborough data, one in four of these ad responders credited a radio ad for their action.
These consumer actions include making a purchase, visiting a store, following a brand on social media, or recommending a product to friends or family. Radio-influenced adults not only responded more often than those influenced by other media, but they also showed stronger intent and more frequent purchases in key consumer sectors.
The Katz analysis found that adults influenced by radio ads outperform others across nearly every major category. For example, they are 68 percent more likely than the average adult to participate in sports betting. Compared to other ad-influenced consumers, that’s a 56-point advantage. Radio listeners also show elevated interest in large-ticket items: they are 15 points more likely to buy a luxury vehicle, 17 points more likely to purchase a video game console, and 16 points more inclined to spend over $500 on men’s business attire.
Radio’s influence extends beyond purchases to leisure and entertainment planning. These listeners indexed 44 points higher than their peers in planning visits to indoor water parks and 10 points higher for upcoming theme park trips. Additional spending patterns show increased likelihood of attending movies, buying jewelry, and shopping for new mattresses.
Katz Media Group emphasized that, while specific brand response data was not available, the consistent behavioral trends among radio-influenced consumers show they are more engaged across categories. The report suggests that these consumers offer more value to advertisers than the average ad-influenced adult.
In an increasingly fragmented media landscape, where advertisers seek platforms that deliver results, radio continues to offer reliable performance. AM/FM radio, in particular, remains a powerful channel for connecting with active, purchase-ready audiences. As marketing strategies adapt to tighter consumer budgets and a demand for clear outcomes, the data reinforces radio’s continued strength in driving real-world consumer action.
