The NAB has launched a multi-platform campaign to urge the FCC to modernize its outdated local radio ownership regulations, which restrict broadcasters’ ability to compete with Big Tech. The campaign includes a website, national ads, and consumer outreach to encourage the public to contact lawmakers and the FCC. It follows NAB CEO Curtis LeGeyt’s call for action at The Media Institute’s 2025 Communications Forum. LeGeyt stressed the importance of updating rules to support local stations in the digital age, stating, “This campaign underscores the urgent need to modernize outdated FCC ownership regulations that put the future of local TV and radio stations at risk.” The current rules, limiting station ownership in a market and capping TV station reach at 39% of US households, were established long before the rise of the internet. The NAB hopes to level the playing field against unrestricted digital platforms.
