Now, with over 40 senators already backing it, the legislation seeks to solidify AM radio as a critical safety feature. Markey emphasized its importance during climate-related disasters, stating, “Broadcast AM radio continues to be a critical tool for communication.” Cruz echoed this sentiment, calling AM radio “the most reliable form of communication” during emergencies. NAB CEO Curtis LeGeyt urged swift passage, adding, “Time and again, AM radio has proven itself as an irreplaceable resource.” With growing support, lawmakers push to keep AM radio accessible for millions relying on it for news, talk, and emergency alerts.
