Two local entrepreneurs, Jeff Solari and Greg Hawes, are set to take over Bangor’s WKIT-FM, previously owned by Stephen King, through their company Rock Lobster Radio LLC. This comes after community outcry over plans to shut down the classic rock station by December 31. Solari and Hawes responded to the overwhelming public support, ensuring the station’s continued operation under a Local Marketing Agreement starting January 1, with FCC approval pending in 2025. Solari, a sportscaster, expressed excitement about fulfilling a lifelong dream, while Hawes highlighted the community’s strong attachment to the station. Though WKIT will remain on air, the future of King’s other stations, WZLO and WZON, remains uncertain as they are expected to cease broadcasting by year’s end. The move ensures that WKIT’s familiar voices and programming will continue to serve the Bangor community for the foreseeable future.
