In her farewell as FCC Chairwoman, Jessica Rosenworcel highlighted her “record-breaking” enforcement actions, particularly against pirate radio. Over four years, the FCC issued over $340 million in fines across 80 enforcement actions, including maximum penalties under the PIRATE Act, which allows fines up to $2.39 million for unauthorized broadcasts. Rosenworcel was the first Chair to impose these maximum penalties, targeting repeat offenders in Queens, the Bronx, and Miami. Rosenworcel reflected on broader initiatives, including requiring AI disclosures in political ads, enforcing robocall rules, and improving transparency with all-in pricing. She also prioritized strengthening 911 call routing, disaster recovery, and outage reporting. “Public service is a special calling,” Rosenworcel stated. “I was able to break a glass ceiling because my family helped pick up the pieces at home. Thank you to President Biden for giving me the opportunity to make history.” Rosenworcel steps down as Brendan Carr takes over on January 20.
