The FCC’s biennial report reveals a persistent lack of diversity in radio ownership, with women and minorities holding significantly fewer stakes compared to white and male stakeholders. The report examines attributable and majority ownership across commercial and noncommercial AM and FM stations, showing minimal progress between 2021 and 2023.In commercial AM radio, female ownership stagnated at 62%, while male ownership dominated at 92%, down slightly from 93%. Black ownership rose marginally from 15% to 16%, but Hispanic ownership declined from 21% to 20%. White ownership remained steady at 91%. Similar trends persisted in FM radio, with minor increases in Black and Hispanic ownership but little change overall. Noncommercial stations showed slightly better progress. Black and Hispanic ownership in FM rose significantly, from 32% to 43% and 27% to 38%, respectively. However, white-majority ownership still dominates across all categories, highlighting the need for more inclusive policies.
