RAB wraps up 2026 media career academies.

The Radio Advertising Bureau, working with the Georgia Association of Broadcasters (GAB), the GAB Education Foundation, the Illinois Broadcasters Foundation (IBF) and the Kellar Family Foundation, has completed its 2026 Media Career Academies program series.

The series included the GAB Media Career Academy, held May 11-16 at Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia; the IBF Media Career Academy, held May 11-15 in Bloomington, Illinois; and the Kellar Media Career Academy, held June 8-12 at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.

The academies gave college-age participants hands-on experiences designed to highlight career opportunities across broadcast radio, audio and media. As part of the National Radio Talent System (NRTS), RAB’s student training initiative, the programs connected students with broadcasters, media executives and other industry professionals while providing a broad look at the evolving media business.

“The Media Career Academies are designed to help students see the breadth of opportunities that exist across broadcasting and audio,” said Mike Hulvey, president and CEO of RAB. “For many participants, these programs provide their first meaningful exposure to the business and introduce them to career paths they may not have previously considered. Investing in future talent and helping students envision themselves in our industry is critical to ensuring radio continues to thrive.”

Randy Gravley, president of the Georgia Association of Broadcasters and underwriter of the GAB Media Career Academy, said direct interaction with industry professionals is one of the programs’ greatest benefits.

“One of the most impactful elements of these academies is the opportunity for students to connect directly with industry professionals and experience firsthand the innovation, creativity and collaboration that define broadcasting today,” Gravley said. “The GAB Media Career Academy plays an important role in helping us cultivate future broadcasters in Georgia.”

Dennis Lyle, president and chief executive officer of the Illinois Broadcasters Association and Illinois Broadcasters Foundation and underwriter of the IBF Media Audio Career Academy, said the program gives students practical exposure to the industry.

“The IBF Audio Media Career Academy is helping Illinois students explore broadcasting and media through a modern, practical and highly engaging lens,” Lyle said. “By bringing together students and industry leaders in collaborative learning environments, we’re helping inspire the next generation.”

The Media Career Academies are part of RAB’s ongoing efforts to support the future growth and strength of the U.S. broadcast radio industry through advocacy, education and training.
