NRG sells Central Nebraska cluster to Usher Media.

NRG Media has agreed to divest its six Central Nebraska radio outlets to locally owned Usher Media, shifting a long-standing regional group into the hands of an in-market broadcaster. The package covers KGFW-AM, KQKY, KRNY, and one FM translator serving Kearney, along with KROR in Hastings and KSYZ in Grand Island, giving Usher an immediate footprint across the tri-cities area.

Kalil & Co. acted as the exclusive broker on the transaction. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the deal remains subject to FCC approval. NRG Media, headquartered in iowa and led by CEO Mary Quass, continues to own more than 30 radio stations across iowa, illinois, nebraska, and wisconsin.

Quass said the decision reflects both market focus and confidence in the buyer. She praised the central nebraska staff as an “exceptional team” that turned the cluster into “a vital voice” for listeners and advertisers, and said NRG is pleased to transfer the stations to Usher Media LLC, which she described as a respected local broadcaster. Quass added that she expects the new owner to build on the existing foundation and continue serving the community with “excellence.”

Usher Media head Alan Usher framed the acquisition as both a growth move and a homecoming. Noting that he was raised in the tri-cities, he said local ownership is central to the company’s strategy and that the purchase underscores a commitment to expand while remaining rooted in the region. Usher pledged to be a community leader, champion local projects, and support economic growth.

He also emphasized plans to deliver robust service content, highlighting goals for comprehensive local news, weather, and sports coverage across the newly acquired signals. Usher said the company wants the cluster to help foster “a vibrant and thriving community for all,” positioning the stations as everyday companions as well as hubs for information and local engagement once the sale closes and the transition is complete.
