The Broadcasters Foundation of America brought together over 200 attendees for its third New York City Media Mixer on Wednesday night, packing iHeartMedia’s Manhattan studios with broadcast executives, emerging professionals, and future media talent.
The June 18 event served dual purposes: to promote networking across generations of broadcasters and to raise awareness for the Foundation’s mission of helping industry members in need. The evening was co-hosted by BFOA Ambassador Angela Yee, host of the syndicated “Way Up with Angela Yee,” which airs locally on Power 105.1, and WABC-TV anchor Pedro Rivera.
Attendees moved through the space exchanging ideas and stories, bridging gaps between veteran leaders and those just entering the industry. Executives from national networks and local stations mingled with students and early-career broadcasters, offering advice, encouragement, and connection in an upbeat setting.
BFOA President Tim McCarthy and Chair Scott Herman took the stage to spotlight the Foundation’s impact. McCarthy emphasized the organization’s critical role in providing direct financial aid to broadcasters facing serious hardship. Over the past year, BFOA has issued nearly $2 million in grants, including emergency relief for victims of natural disasters like the wildfires in Los Angeles and hurricanes that hit the Southeast last fall.
The crowd responded warmly to stories of the Foundation’s work, learning how their participation and donations translate into tangible support for colleagues in crisis. McCarthy reminded attendees that behind the scenes of the business’s glamour are real people who often need a safety net—and the BFOA aims to be that support.
The event closed with a live performance from Long Island singer/songwriter Camryn Quinlan, bringing a musical lift to an already high-energy evening. Her set capped off a night full of networking, purpose, and a shared sense of mission.
With past mixers in Los Angeles and Chicago and now a successful showing in New York, the Broadcasters Foundation announced it will bring the next Media Mixer to Austin, Texas, later this summer, continuing to grow its national reach and community.
