Listener rejection of AI voices grows.

New research reveals a looming challenge for broadcasters turning to artificial on-air solutions, as audiences indicate they would abandon even favorite content if AI voices were introduced. Resistance is most pronounced among highly educated listeners, suggesting objections are based less on lack of understanding and more on informed concern about creative job loss.

A Sounds Profitable study shows that when asked about favorite podcasts featuring AI voices, 47% said they would be less likely to listen, with 28% saying “much less likely.” Only 21% expressed more willingness to engage with AI-driven content. Inception Point AI, aiming to mass-produce thousands of AI podcasts weekly, illustrates the scale of the issue.

Tom Webster of Sounds Profitable emphasizes that disclosure requirements may be essential to preserve advertiser trust and content quality. As radio and audio industries deepen their reliance on AI for production, personalization, and advertising, long-term success may hinge on balancing efficiency with the authenticity listeners demand.
