Holladay Broadcasting is asking the FCC for permission to expand its presence in the Monroe, Louisiana, market by acquiring an additional FM station. Robert Holladay’s company has reached an agreement to buy KJMG from Skyline Media for $50,000. Because the acquisition would give the company control over one-third of the radio signals assigned to the market, a waiver of current ownership rules is required. The seller, Todd Fowler of Skyline Media, indicated that the station has faced significant financial and operational hurdles as a standalone operation in a small market.
In the waiver request, Holladay Broadcasting outlined a plan to enhance the station’s service to the local community if the deal is approved. The company pledged to implement four daily three-minute newscasts and provide twice-hourly weather updates using a meteorologist who is already on staff at the cluster. Additionally, the broadcaster plans to provide live coverage of both home and away games for a local high school football team, emphasizing that the consolidation would provide the resources necessary to maintain robust local programming.
