Delilah, widely regarded as the most-listened-to woman on U.S. radio, reaches over eight million listeners weekly across nearly 160 stations. Her distinctive nightly show—marked by music dedications, storytelling, and personal advice—has been a staple of American broadcasting since 1984. She celebrated her 50th year on the air in 2024, a milestone reflecting not only longevity but a rare depth of listener loyalty.
The LABF Insight Award honors individuals or organizations whose work enhances public understanding of media’s role, history, or societal impact. Past recipients include LeVar Burton, *60 Minutes*, and Soledad O’Brien. Delilah now joins that distinguished group, celebrated not just for her enduring popularity but for how she has elevated the medium of radio.
In an emotional and inspiring acceptance speech, Delilah spoke candidly about the obstacles she faced early in her career and the values that shaped her approach to broadcasting. “Radio has given me the ability—and paid me far better than KLSY ever did,” she said with a touch of humor, “to experience that five hours a night, five days a week. Who else gets to do that? Who else gets to paint pictures?”
She continued, “No medium exists that can transport and transform and inform like radio. And I thank God that I have had this career, all these amazing opportunities. Thank you for this honor, thank you for blessing me, thank you for believing in radio.”
The room responded with a standing ovation, acknowledging not just Delilah’s legacy but the way she has helped define the emotional and connective power of the airwaves. Her voice—so often a nighttime comfort to millions—became, in that moment, a tribute to what makes radio personal, enduring, and profoundly human.
