The Broadcasters Foundation of America will host its next Media Mixer at the National Association of Broadcasters headquarters in Washington, DC, on Thursday, November 6. NAB president and CEO Curtis LeGeyt will serve as host alongside NBC News chief justice and national affairs correspondent Kelly O’Donnell and Joel Oxley, president and general manager of Hubbard Radio’s WTOP.
Open to all broadcast professionals at no charge, the gathering doubles as networking and a showcase for the Foundation’s mission to assist colleagues facing illness, disaster, or other emergencies; advance registration is required. Earlier Media Mixers have taken place in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Austin, with additional events planned nationwide.
Broadcasters Foundation chair Scott Herman thanked NAB for providing the venue and credited LeGeyt, O’Donnell, and Oxley for helping elevate the event. He emphasized that the mixers bring together junior and senior professionals and on-air personalities while raising the organization’s visibility so that every broadcaster who qualifies for aid can be reached.
The BFOA describes itself as the only charity devoted exclusively to financial assistance for broadcasters in need due to severe illness, accident, or natural disaster. On average, the Foundation supports about 400 current and former broadcasters each year through two programs: recurring monthly grants for ongoing recovery and one-time emergency grants after natural disasters or serious home emergencies.
The organization notes that its support comes from within the broadcasting community and has expanded substantially over time. Grantmaking grew from approximately $400,000 in 2007 to nearly $2,000,000 in 2024, reflecting both increased need and stronger industry backing.
