The AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act has been reintroduced in the U.S. House by Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) and Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) the same day it passed the Senate Commerce Committee. Aimed at ensuring AM radio remains standard in new vehicles, the bill highlights AM’s role in providing emergency alerts and local news. Previously, it saw strong support with a 45-2 vote in the House Energy and Commerce Committee and endorsements from over 250 House members and 125 organizations. Rep. Bilirakis emphasized, “It is critical to have a robust and widely accessible communication infrastructure… to alert Americans during emergency situations and natural disasters.” Pallone added, “AM radio provides a broad variety of programming and lifesaving information during emergencies.” NAB CEO Curtis LeGeyt praised the bill, calling AM radio “a proven lifeline during emergencies and a trusted source of news,” urging swift House approval of this bipartisan legislation.
