NPR is encouraging young people to get involved with the burgeoning podcasting trend by holding the “NPR Student Podcast Challenge” early next year. To enter, a student or teacher should submit a short (3-12-minute) student-produced podcast; the network provides training materials and other resources. Two winners—one in the Grades 5-8 category, and one from Grades 9-11—will be interviewed by the network for “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered.” Meanwhile, the public radio network will itself be honored with the first iHeartRadio Podcast Pioneer Award at the first iHeartRadio Podcast Awards ceremony to be held in Los Angeles in mid-January.
