There’s a resurgence in readership among major dailies, while advertising revenues decline sharply; both phenomena are tied to a single cause: economic and health uncertainties fueled by the pandemic and its inconsistent treatment by state and national leaders. The New York Times, for example, reports a 30% dip in ad revenues offset by a 12.6% rise in subscriptions for the third quarter of this year, resulting in essentially flat performance compared to last year.
