Westwood One’s latest survey of AM/FM radio listeners indicates that 60% of heavy local radio listeners who normally work outside the home are still doing so, a significantly higher percentage than the 47% of the general population who are working outside the home. According to the survey, radio is “a strong number two to television” for news and information; radio’s primary strength is localism. An overwhelming majority of those surveyed—in the 70-80% range—want radio to give them normal programming as opposed to pandemic-oriented programming.
