The FCC has revised the rules about broadcasters notifying the public when they file certain applications. Broadly, the revisions include eliminating the requirement that notices be published in print newspapers, and reducing the amount of information to be included in the notices. Henceforth the notices can be shorter and more consistent; must include links to the applications, if online; permitting notices to be posted on station and other local websites; requiring links to the applications in the online public file; and shorter, more uniform, and more frequent on-air announcements. According to NAB Senior Vice President of Communications Ann Marie Cumming, “NAB thanks the FCC for unanimously approving the simplification of rules governing broadcasters’ public notice of license renewals and modifications. Today’s vote will help bring the licensing process for local radio and TV stations into the modern age.”
