The former NAB Joint Board Chairman, chair of the Broadcasters Foundation of America (BFoA), and founder of Citadel Communications, passed away last week. Lombardo led BFoA for thirteen years, during which annual financial assistance increased from $60,000 to nearly $850,000. Starting his broadcasting career at WBBM-TV, he later founded Citadel Communications in 1982, and the last Citadel station was sold in 2023. Recognized as an industry legend, Lombardo’s commitment to broadcasters in need earned him praise. The BFoA named its annual celebrity golf tournament after Lombardo in 2010. Lombardo expressed gratitude upon stepping down in 2016, calling it the most rewarding endeavor of his career.
