The National Association of Broadcasters is challenging musicFIRST Coalition, Future of Music Coalition, and REC Networks over the FCC’s reinstatement of the FM Duplication Rule. This rule, removed in 2020 to promote industry modernization, limited commonly owned stations in the same market from duplicating more than 25% of weekly programming. The FCC reinstated it after musicFIRST argued that its removal harmed competition and programming diversity. In its petition, NAB claims the FCC based its decision on speculation rather than data. NAB urges the FCC to review the rule’s actual impact over the past four years before taking final action on reinstatement.
