The National Association of Broadcasters supports the proposed Content Origin Protection and Integrity from Edited and Deepfaked Media Act (COPIED Act) aimed at increasing transparency in AI-generated content. This bill, introduced by Senators Maria Cantwell, Martin Heinrich, and Marsha Blackburn, mandates federal standards for detecting and watermarking synthetic media, and requires AI developers to provide content provenance. It also gives creators legal rights to sue for unauthorized use of their work and prohibits using copyrighted content to train AI without consent. NAB and other organizations hope this will protect the integrity of news and artistic content from deepfakes and unauthorized AI use.
