MediaVillage’s Myers Report, a comprehensive study on advertising and media sales trends, identifies a significant oversight in radio sales related to sonic branding. Based on feedback from 4,200 industry professionals, the report reveals that sonic branding is the second-largest weak area for sellers. Many lack basic knowledge on the subject, presenting a substantial opportunity for radio sellers to capitalize on this blind spot. Sonic branding, encompassing sung jingles, music beds, and distinctive sounds like Netflix’s “Ta-Dum,” remains a powerful tool for embedding a brand in audiences’ minds. Despite radio/audio being the ninth most understood category and podcasts ranking fourth, there is room for improvement. The report emphasizes the growing dominance of programmatic and automated media buys, constituting approximately 65% of all national media transactions. Recognizing the knowledge gap in media, particularly among professionals with shorter tenures, the report suggests that radio sellers can enhance their value by gaining expertise in niche facets and leveraging the strengths of AM/FM.
