Pretty much anyone who has lived and worked in the Midwest recognizes the name Van Harden; Van has been waking up the denizens of Des Moines, IA for about 25 years at WHO, currently owned by iHeartMedia. Now, Van has announced that he will retire effective January 8, 2021. Editor’s $0.02: Van’s gentle, avuncular on-air style is a reflection of a man who has befriended countless broadcasters over the years. I feel bad for WHO; the station is confronting the replacement of the irreplaceable – someone who has been a friend and companion for years, building a trust and a habit that you simply cannot replicate in the short run. We wish Van the greatest of happiness in the next chapter of his life.
