The Library of American Broadcasting Foundation has launched a national initiative to support broadcasters as the country prepares to commemorate america’s 250th anniversary. the effort centers on the theme “Before it was history, it was broadcast,” highlighting the role of local radio and television in capturing defining national moments.
as part of the campaign, LABF will provide customizable :30 and :60 broadcast spots designed for flexibility. stations can incorporate their own voices, stories, and archival material, allowing for localized storytelling tied to national history. each spot includes royalty-free music, with television versions also featuring patriotic visuals.
“America’s 250th Anniversary is a powerful opportunity to reflect on how our nation’s story has been told—and local broadcasters have been there every step of the way,” said LABF co-chairs Deborah Parenti and Dave “Chachi” Denes. “This initiative gives stations a meaningful way to celebrate that legacy and connect their communities to the moments that shaped our country.”
the campaign is designed as a “shell” format, enabling stations to tailor content while maintaining a consistent national message. the approach emphasizes broadcasting’s ability to connect communities to history in real time, reinforcing radio and television’s long-standing role in documenting major events as they unfold.
a second phase of the initiative is planned, featuring pre-produced national spots drawn from the foundation’s archival audio and video collections. those materials are expected to be released soon, expanding the campaign with historically significant content curated from the Library of American Broadcasting.
stations interested in accessing the customizable spots can contact mary collins, executive director, at Mary@LABFMedia.org or 847-910-8878.
