FCC denies denial appeals.

The Commission has turned down the Application for Review of the denial of Alaska Educational Radio System’s application for FM translators in four Alaska cities. A competitor, Turquoise Broadcasting Company, objected to the application on the grounds that Alaska Educational was not financially qualified; in ruling on the appeal, the Commission ruled that Alaska Educational failed to offer evidence of financial qualification.

Meanwhile, in Massachusetts, a similar story played out: The FCC denied the Application for Review of the denial of Emmanuel Communications’ original application for translator in Worcester to extend the range of station WNEB-AM, licensed to that city. Again, a competitor, Plymouth Rock Broadcasting, filed a Petition to Deny, asserting that the translator would interfere with its station in Plymouth, MA.
