A study by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign reveals radio ads using emotional content can increase support for organ donation, particularly among those hesitant to register. The research, involving over 570 participants, compared two 60-second ads: one featuring a joyful heart transplant recipient and another with a patient anxiously waiting for a lung transplant. Ads generating happiness had a 75% effectiveness rate in persuading listeners, while those evoking sadness were 50% effective. Emotional radio ads addressed common fears and mistrust related to organ donation, indicating that positive messaging could increase donor registration, especially among African American and Hispanic audiences.
