As COVID-era work-from-home policies decline, commuting has surged, boosting AM/FM radio consumption in cars. According to Edison Research, by June 2024, over 70% of employed adults are commuting, with a 29% increase since 2020. The 30-44 age group leads this trend at 76%, followed by the 18-29 age group at 74%, which saw a 41% rise. Increased traffic congestion, particularly in major cities, emphasizes the importance of AM/FM radio. Edison reports AM/FM radio commands an 86% share of in-car ad-supported audio. Audio ads outperform other forms in recall and purchase intent, highlighting radio’s strategic advantage in advertising campaigns.
