Commission throws open a geotargeting window.

The FCC opens a window for public input on FM geotargeting, allowing FM booster stations to create content for three minutes each hour. Broadcasters can express support or concerns until May 16, with reply comments due by June 17. The initiative aims to address implementation issues like programming synchronization and interference prediction. Proposed changes include capping FM booster stations at 25 per FM station. NAB President Curtis LeGeyt acknowledges potential risks to local stations’ community service and advertising models. NABOB and GeoBroadcast Solutions support the measure, seeing it as empowering broadcasters to better serve communities.
