BMI goes after sat-rad company.

Broadcast Music, Inc. has taken legal action against SiriusXM in rate court to establish fair compensation for music licenses. Despite prolonged negotiations, no agreement was reached, and SiriusXM has been pushing for reduced payments. BMI argues that these proposed rates undervalue the contributions of songwriters, composers, and publishers, who form the backbone of SiriusXM’s offerings. BMI’s President and CEO, Mike O’Neill, emphasizes their commitment to fighting for appropriate rates. Additionally, SiriusXM faces other legal challenges: a $150 million SoundExchange lawsuit alleging unpaid royalties due to revenue manipulation, and a class action lawsuit in Washington state accusing the company of deceptive practices related to a concealed “US Music Royalty” fee added to subscription costs.
