Senator Rand Paul has blocked the passage of the AM For Every Vehicle Act, a bipartisan bill, leading to frustration from Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Paul seeks to modify the bill by ending electric vehicle subsidies under the American Vehicle Tax Credit instead of mandating AM radio as a standard safety feature in all US vehicles. Unanimous consent was required for expedited approval, but Paul’s objection triggered standard Senate procedures. Despite disappointment, NAB President Curtis LeGeyt expressed gratitude to Senators Cruz and Markey for their commitment to the legislation. The bill’s potential paths include attachment to non-related legislation or a formal floor vote. The December 14 deadline for passage before the holiday recess looms, with 44 Senators supporting the Act. The House of Representatives must also approve the bill, where it has 191 cosponsors, requiring a simple majority of 218 votes.
